The fourth patch

This has been discussed somewhat, but I thought the topic merited some additional conversation- At the last SG-OPS airsoft event, I was seen sporting 'the fourth patch', that is, a velcrite patch just underneath where the 3.5-4" project patch normally attaches on the left sleeve of my black BDU shirt.

Not canon by any means (then again, neither is SG-SOCOM), but a really convenient place when you want to show some kind of additional affiliation. I happened to have on an Echo 1 patch, but the attach-point could easily be used for a variety of other 3" patches.

Why did I decide this? Well, it doesn't seem enough that we are confined to three patches that are already somewhat pre-determined. And it corresponds symetrically to the assigned branch patch on the right sleeve.

Thoughts? 8)

The attach-point is highlighted in yellow. Some options appear to the left :)

Re: The fourth patch

I like the concept. Especially for Airsoft games and such. I personally intend to do a canon uniform so I will need a duplicate for the "4th Patch". I like the concept of the search & rescue patch for an additional assignment patch. The 4th patch could be a specialty identifier or something. If we are doing organized airsoft/paintball, maybe a squad number or something to maintain uniformity. Just some ideas.

Re: The fourth patch

Great minds, Mike, great minds...

We've been talking about forming up an airsoft team since (probably before) I joined. In terms of a team patch, there are dozens of ideas:

: A multi-national concept, basically a Stargate equivalent of 'Rainbow Six'. As we have members abroad, and the Canadians who airsoft in particular, this would be a good one when we all skirmish together

: An obvious choice that combines the symbology of both Air Force and Stargate on one patch. An emphasis on playing out SAR-type scenarios could be our specialty.

/: Of course, if we're lucky enough to have a sponsor for the team, perhaps one day we can wear something like this, and mean it...

Re: The fourth patch

Hmmm, not too fond of the UN patch. The idea of the search & rescue patch does seem to be right up the alley of SOCOM. I think I will do some web surfing to see what other options there are. I would hate to just adopt a patch someone else may be using.

Re: The fourth patch

Hmm, not to throw a wrinkle into anyone plans or ideas. But while this idea was brought up by a member, it was never adopted or voted upon by the ComStaff. While we're not costume Nazis by any means, our current use of the Off-Worlds Ops or Space & Air Ops patchs are to substitute for the canon SG styled "team" patches. In an effort to keep costs down, and to prevent each SG-SOCOM team/sqdn from needing to make its own designs and minimum production runs, we had long since adopted th use of those two other patches for the SG-SOC units. Typically some of our personnel do wear their team/sqdn patches to local events in place of their SG-SOCOM patches, though at cons, etc. we all tend to wear the SG-SOCOM patches to promote the SG-SOC side of the fan group. Obviously, this does not apply to SG-2 and other canon styled SG teams.

Re: The fourth patch

Please let us know if ComStaff might be open to having a vote to approve the 'fourth' patch for the formation of our Airsoft team
