Good thinking, Dusty.

Re: SGA costume progress

Thanx guys...my BDUs came in & everything fits right. Now I just gotta find someone to help me sew on the velcro (all my skills & talents & I'm bested by a sewing machine -hangs head in shame-) I'm hoping that I can get the velcro done this weekend though & as soon as it's done, I'll post pics.

thanx again guys

Re: SGA costume progress

No local cosplayers that'd be willing to slap them on for you? I've a friend that has a nice machine and is sewing mine on for $5 or so each :) Seems fair enough as I don't own a machine!

Don't forget that gem of a conversation between Carter and McKay in that episode too! A nod to SGA's "Grace Under Pressure" :D I felt just like Carter did during that scene! Can't stand McKay and yes, I've watched all of SGA lol!

Can't wait to see them, Chris.

I do all of my sewing by hand, although I have access to a sewing machine via my in-laws if I need one. Only time I've used a machine is when I hemmed the pant legs on my flight suit.

Re: SGA costume progress

I usually sews two circles around the edges of the velcro patches and a + over it as well. That usually does the trick.

Re: SGA costume progress

Well the harness I made for my p90 was all hand-sewn by me & I'm pretty happy with the way it came out...however, my hand-sewing skills are still very beginner & I just wanna make sure that my patches stay put cuz they won't be permanently attached to my BDU blouse.

Re: SGA costume progress

ok cats & kitties...the moment we've all been waiting for...drum roll please...my finished Colonel Shepard!!!

Image

These pics were taken earlier today (5 Jun) at day one of our biggest con of the year, Phoenix Comic Con (PCC). Sadly I was without my anti-McKay lemon...but I did find someone to torment...

Image

The costume was very well recieved & surprisingly well recognized which made me happy...that & after my Star Wars kits, having NO ARMOR was a blessing in disguise!

Hope you guys enjoy & I hope to post up some more pics of the Shepard in action soon!

Re: SGA costume progress

Awesome!!! Love how there was a Jaffa to face off with! Was that planned :D?

Also, what are you using for an ear piece :)?

Can't wait to see more pics! I hope my costume is as recognised as yours was :)!

Re: SGA costume progress

Thanks for the compliments Hibson!

...the Jaffa was NOT planned...happened to be making my rounds of the floor & there's my buddy Frank & I grabbed him for the pic! I'm gonna be wearing this one most the day tomorrow & I'm hoping to see some more Jaffa. I was honestly surprised by the number of random people who stopped me to compliment on the kit, chat me up about it (some actually asked if I was part of a Stargate group) & take pics!

Oh & my earpiece is a plantronics bluetooth headset (NOT standard Atlantis issue ;))

Re: SGA costume progress

Fair enough :D It's expensive to get the SGA earwig :D Besides, I think a Plantronics compliments it nicely!

Looking real good Chris, Looks like your ready for deployment. Running into a Jaffa was a piece of luck. Nothing like antagonists being at the same con to spice things up.

Looking good there buddy. Doesn't it feel nice to be recognized for what you are. When my friend & I went to NYCC we got stopped quite a few times & were asked for pictures, certainly adds to the fun of the day.

Re: SGA costume progress

Thanx guys, had a BLAST this weekend! I spent friday afternoon in my atlantis kit, 14 hours in my Mand on saturday & then spent today back in my Atlantis kit.

I got a lot of requests for pics in both kits & a couple folks interested in doing gate team members as well...even got the phone number of a very cute female Dr. Horrible (the girls love a man in uniform ;)).

I LOVE my Atlantis kit & can't wait to wear it again. Sadly it probably won't get much play because outside of cons, there isn't any activities for it :(

Great news! So glad it was a blast for you!!! I'm hopeful my first public display of my SG1/SGA uniform will be equally as well received as yours is!
