Atlantis Costume Question

In the dossier for the boards I mentioned that my character was temporarily re-assigned to Atlantis, where I received the ATA Gene Therapy and learned to pilot the Puddle Jumpers. This got me thinking about the Atlantis uniform and a question came to mind.

As a pilot, what color would the panels on my Atlantis uniform be?

The costume guides provide the following information, but I'm not sure where a pilot would fall.

Panel colors:
- Black = Security Force (Lt Col Shepherd)
- Maroon Red = Operations (Dr Weir & Tayla)
- Blue = Sciences (Dr McKay)
- Yellow = Health Sciences (Dr Beckett)
- Forest Green = Technical Operations (Gate Room Tech)
- Grey = Special Operations (Strike Team in Season 3)

My initial thought was forest green, but I could also see grey as an option. Thoughts?

Re: Atlantis Costume Question

That's a good question. Were there any people specifically designated as pilots? It seems like people flew the puddle jumpers from all specialties.

In "Grace Under Pressure" a pilot from the Daedalus (in a green flight suit) was piloting the jumper with McKay when it crashed into the ocean. In "Adrift" several members of the Atlantis expedition were seen piloting the jumpers that flew ahead of Atlantis and destroyed asteroids that were threatening the city. In some episodes random security officers flew the jumpers, but I don't think the black panels of the security forces would really apply to my character's persona.

Edit: After further research I'm coming up with nothing. Several wiki sits list a number of pilots who appeared on Atlantis, but most of them appeared in their flight suit uniforms on screen. The only exception was Lt. Miller, who was wearing a red jumpsuit when he piloted McKay and Grodin to the Ancient Satellite weapon in "The Siege- Part 1". Ugh.

Re: Atlantis Costume Question

I just had the opinion that whoever wanted to train as a puddle jumper pilot did and would fly no matter their field (especially if they had the gene)

Re: Atlantis Costume Question

John, I think you'll have to wing it on this one. I can't find a thing about Atlantis pilot uniforms, so it would seem that there was no particular color scheme for flight operations. I could be wrong, as I can't view any video to confirm my conclusion.

It seems that way to me as well, Zathras. The only "dedicated" pilots I was able to come across in my research seemed to be officers assigned to the Daedalus who may have been on loan to Atlantis while the Daedalus was making trips between Earth and Atlantis. I doubt there was a specific color scheme for pilots, since it does seem as though pilots seen on screen came from a variety of fields. Hopefully a previous post didn't come across as annoyed. If so, it was not my intention.

Agreed, Merlin. My type-A personality forces me to obsess over often trivial details such as this. If I decide to do an Atlantis uniform (which I'm seriously considering because I love the look of them) I'll probably use either the technician green or the special operations grey. More than likely I'll go with green because I think it will be more striking in appearance than grey, not to mention green is one of my favorite colors. ;)

Re: Atlantis Costume Question

I think it would have to be black...given that you are military and most of the pilots seen were military. That being said, as above, feel free to wing it! :D
