New Issue Navy Utilities

Found out today from a young man who's in the Navy Reserves and works at my store why the new utilities they use are a blue/gray pattern. It's so that when they are painting aboard ship any paint splatter that may land on their utilities will blend in and not look sloppy. That's at least part of the reasoning he said anyways. He says that they aren't particularly comfortable due to their heavy weight. Thought you guys might find that interesting.

And I understand that they must be dry cleaned or they turn a wonderfully brilliant orange.

Re: New Issue Navy Utilities

Is it just me, or does the term "dry cleaning" just seem like a big oxymoron when refering to the Navy?

Here's one for you, dry cleaning on a submarine. Now that really don't make sense.

Re: New Issue Navy Utilities

Found out from my Navy friend that the whole orange thing was only part of the prototype utilities. Apparently that feature didn't pan out, so it went no further then that.

Don't worry the idea hadn't even crossed my mind. After hearing Dan talk about them, I certainly didn't get the "I have to go get me a set" feeling.

Re: New Issue Navy Utilities

I believe that they tied the Orange thing on the prototype for those idiots who had a tendency to fall over-board would be instently seen in the water like the orange suits for rescue. Lets face it, if you fall into the sea in water camos do you think anyone will see you when the ship is going 15 knots???

Man overboard is exactly why they had the color changing idea.

Re: New Issue Navy Utilities

Does anyone have a good source for the new NWU(navy working uniform) the digital type not the grey/blue woodland style. I have a friend that has access to the Navy Exchange-and they either didn't have the type I'm looking for or they were not in my size.
