Reboot-sequelish ... new SG movies?

There have been talk of new SG movis for quite a while now. But in September Roland Emmerich, of Stargate the movie fame, spoke on the subject again. Saying that he would like to make three new movies rebooting the franschise in a sequelish kind of way. Read about it on a sister-site, here:
http://www.gateworld.net/news/2013/09/c ... -stargate/

I for one is very ambivalent about it all. Sure it is great to generate new interest in the old shows by making new content, but I am also very sick of remakes. But perhaps the TV-world is going the same way as the comic one, where we have several parallel versions of the same characters in different versions of the world and so on.

I certainly would be interesting to see the direction that a re-boot would go. Would need to stay true to its core and its origins.

Re: Reboot-sequelish ... new SG movies?

I've enjoyed Stargate in all its forms and welcome anything that breathes life into the franchise. While I know it won't be SG-1, Atlantis, or Universe I'm intrigued about what a reboot (with today's movie making tech advances) would look like.

Re: Reboot-sequelish ... new SG movies?

I have never been a fan of the complete re-boots. The new Star Trek movies for example, although shiny on the surface, are rather unnecessary I think. While the way they solved it earlier by setting the new show either before or after is a good way of handling it.

Then again, the new Battlestar was good indeed. Perhaps it is the exception that confirms the rule. (Is that a proverb in English, by the way?)

Re: Reboot-sequelish ... new SG movies?

I would be very interested in seeing a reboot & would reserve judgment for later after viewing. The thing that might make it really interesting, is that it would be done by those who originated the idea of Stargate in the first place. Here's to hoping for good things to come.

Re: Reboot-sequelish ... new SG movies?

So word is that a deal has been penned & a new Stargate trilogy/reboot is going to be heading our way in the near future. So any new thoughts or feelings about what is to be a new direction for our beloved franchise?

Until I actually watch it...idk what to say. Part of me hates that it's ignoring the tv series but another part of me is excited to see where it goes.

The creators of the original fim are behind the reboot, so I'm hopeful it will be good. Waiting to see casting news before getting too excited.

Re: Reboot-sequelish ... new SG movies?

I am very undecided about it. It can be good (like the BSG reboot) but reboots are in them self rather a strange thing to me. Why not continue to build on the existing storyline like the StarTrek did?

Re: Reboot-sequelish ... new SG movies?

No word on casting at this point, but it's been reported that 2 writers have been signed up to work w/the creator. So good news on a bit of forward movement. I read the article late last night on Blastr.com, sorry don't know how to do the link thing.

I'll play a 'wait and see' card on this one. If they remain true to the core of Stargate, it should be fine.

It has been quiet for a while now on the reboot-front. Have someone heard something new?

Re: Reboot-sequelish ... new SG movies?

Roland Emmerich is supposed to be turning his attention back towards the Stargate reboot once Independence Day: Resurgence is completed and released. Hopefully we'll start to get some news on the reboot as the release date for Resurgence approaches.

There seem to have been some new talk about Stargating, but I have found no new news so far. Anyone here who have heard something?

I heard it mentioned again after SDCC but nothing different that we haven't heard before.
