Atlantis' Future : IMPORTANT!

Gang,

I got the below email from our old friends in Vancouver, Christina and Martin. For those who don't recall, they joined our Yahoo group years ago. Martin works on sets and props for Stargate : Atlantis and previously for Stargate : SG-1. Please read and support the show. I have included their email addy and website info for anyone who would like to reply to them, as I have, letting them know they can count on SG-SOCOM's support in this. And re-post on any other forums or sites you think will help to spread the word.

Thanks!

Subject: Atlantis' future

I am sending this out to all SG fans that I know in the US.
--------
I wanted to send out a message NOW as to what is up here in BC.. The
wrap party was last week and, event though it was a good night of fun,
there is a concern going around the productions. You see.... The
news going around is that MGM is waiting on the ratings for the first
three episodes of Atlantis before they decide that they are high
enough to continue the production. Most of us thought.. Okay...
That's fine. Enough people will watch it. BUT.. We realised
something horrid. They aired in the UK already and are downloadable
on line. UK ratings don't get counted. Canadian Ratings don't get
counted. Ratings are what keeps the advertisers paying for the shows
(there is proof of a market) and thus keeps these show in production.
US ratings. If fans are downloading and not watching then.... We're
in the dog house. Literally.

So we're all now waiting for the Atlantis ratings in the US to tell us
if they are continuing or not. If in the first three episodes if the
ratings are not high enough then, by by Atlantis..... And it looks
like with all the downloads of the episodes being aired in the UK
(before the US) the ratings themselves may be too low and Martin and
the gang will be looking for work.

Please watch the episodes. Find a product or two. Write to the
production and tell them that you watched it on this station, this day
and how you enjoy the series. Do this before a show is cancelled.
Please. Once the producers find out that they can't sell a show
because there are not enough numbers to warrant advertisers (and
therefore a station won't buy the show) they have no choice but to
shut it down no matter what the fans scream.

With probable productions coming people who work on the show may be
able to find more work before they run out of their 'seasonal savings'
but the show will not be brought back and we'd have to live without.

Please help out guys. Watch it. Write about it. Show the
advertisers how important the show is to you.

Thank you
Christina

That's the spirit! And exactly what I would expect from the group.

I'll be posting a blog and bulletin about this on my Myspace by the morning and would encourage everyone else to do the same.

Re: Atlantis' Future : IMPORTANT!

Lisa and Wayne, thanks for helping get the word out about Atlantis... if the SciFi Channel drops it, I'd suggest that we band together with the SuperGate.com group and as loudly as possible promote a massive campaign aimed at correcting such a travesty. Besides, could you image a boycott campaign being launched... Hopefully the ratings will be there and the channel execs will realize the importance of the Stargate franchise.

Re: Atlantis' Future: IMPORTANT!

I'll certainly do my part. One of my coworkers is a fan of the show; another is a sci-fi fan. I'm also bringing both of my Atlantis costumes to work on Halloween; I've gotten strong requests for my Sheppard garrison BDUs. ;)

And I also realize that the image of Sheppard you see in my avatar is from the Season 3-4 opening titles. So you better believe I'll do what I can to support the show. :!: :D

Re: Stargate: Atlantis Renewed

Thanks for the update and after all the net chatter about rating and it not being renewed, this is good news indeed.

Scifi confirmed it today, Atlantis has been renewed for season 5! I'm so happy I could... well I don't know what I'll do. I'm so happy I can't think straight. LOL!
