TV Guide has reported that actor Michael Shanks will be Hawkman in the 2-hour movie event for CW’s Superman drama Smallville in January renamed Smallville: Absolute Justice, according to EW.com.

Michael Shanks and Paul McGillion will be in upcoming episodes of Sanctuary. Michael will be in episode 9 and paul will be in the two final episodes of the season. (from The official magazine of Stargate issue #31)

Amanda Tapping confirms her return to SGU Colonel Samantha Carter will be back on the small screen before the first season of Stargate Universe is over. Actress Amanda Tapping confirmed to The Huffington Post that she will return for another guest appearance at the end of the season.

“I’ve done two episodes,” Tapping told the site. “I did their first two-parter and I’m at the very end of their season. And I just shot that a few weeks ago. So I started their season and I’m ending their season, which was very cool. But I didn’t get to play with anyone. If they were ever to have me come back, I’d want to be with people. I’m kind of off on my ship, which I think is awesome.”

Ben Browder is working on his latest movie Freeze Frame for more visit freezeframe4vets.org.

Two Atlantis stars David Hewlwtt and David Nykl will be in the Movie Helen due out this Month.

Rachel Luttrell will be in the upcoming movie Hardwired due out next year.

Re: Star watch

Speaking of Amanda Tapping, she is directing tonight's episode of Sanctuary (10pm ET) on SyFy. It appears to be the first episode of the series she's directed (not counting the online original).

"Veritas" deals with the shooting death of Bigfoot ("the Big Guy"), Helen Magnus' (Tapping) long-time lab assistant. She is accused by the other directors of the Sanctuary Network of the abnormal's murder and Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne) tries to defend his mentor against the accusations.

Former Stargate Atlantis actor David Nykl is set to appear on FOX’s newest drama, Human Target.

The actor behind Dr. Radek Zelenka announced on his blog that he will guest star on the January 20 (9 p.m. / 8 Central) episode of the series. “It’s the one on the plane,” he said. “Drop everything, tune in, then write a letter to the producers saying I should be a regular character.”

Human Target stars Mark Valley (Fringe) as Christopher Chance, a private contractor / bodyguard / security expert who protects his clients by fully integrating himself into their lives. The show also stars Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies) and Jackie Earle Haley.

The second episode of the new series, “Rewind” also airs on CTV in Canada on January 20. Nykl’s character is named Vincent, according to Target419.com. Here’s the episode description from TV Guide:

Winston takes on an unlikely role to help Chance protect an unknown client – a pseudonymous computer hacker with potentially devastating information – from an unidentified assassin aboard a very unusual flight to Seattle.

And from FOX:

Chance and Winston encounter some severe turbulance when they work together to protect a client they have never met from an assassin aboard a passenger plane.

Battlestar Galactica’s Alessandro Juliani also guest stars in the episode. Juliani played two characters on Stargate SG-1.

Human Target premieres in the U.S. tomorrow night, January 17, at 8 p.m., then moves to its Wednesday night timeslot this week at 9 p.m. See more photos from David’s appearance here.

How many television shows filmed in Vancouver will Michael Shanks pop up on this season?

It’s a legitimate question, as details have emerged in regards to the veteran SG-1 actor doing a guest spot on the CW Network series Supernatural.

Details are scarce at this early point, but early reports from TV Guide say that Shanks will play a character named “Rob,” a member of a local militia who, after suffering a loss in his family, will dedicate himself to the cause of the Winchester brothers. There is no word as to whether the guest spot will be a one-off stint or a possible recurring character.

The episode is titled “99 Problems” and the role isn’t a big one, Shanks told his official Web site.

The news comes as fans of both Michael Shanks and fellow CW series Smallville are anticipating the actor’s appearance in that series — a special two-hour movie event scheduled to air on the CW on Friday, February 5 (story). The actor will play the legendary DC Comics hero Hawkman.

Re: Star watch

Has anyone seen the show Human Target? I've seen it the last two weeks and have been impressed. Seems like Valley finally landed a decent role and the chemistry is pretty good between the characters.

After spending two years playing Dr. Carolyn Lam on Stargate SG-1, actress Lexa Doig is putting on the white lab coat again for another genre series.

TV Guide has reported the actress is joining the cast of the ABC network series V, playing an OB/GYN who will treat one of the series’ main characters. That character found out she was pregnant in the November cliffhanger.

The V franchise has roots that go back to the original miniseries, which aired in 1983 on NBC. The plot involved the arrival on Earth of a technologically advanced race known as the Visitors. Although seeming to visit Earth for peaceful purposes, it becomes apparent quickly that the aliens have a sinister purpose.

After strong ratings, a sequel miniseries was produced followed by a weekly television series that ran for one season in 1985. ABC brought the property back to television screens last year as a sweeps event, airing four episodes in November.

The remaining nine episodes of the season will air after the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver — with the first scheduled to hit the airwaves on March 30. Doig’s casting reunites her with fellow Stargate actress Morena Baccarin (“Adria”), who is a series regular

The Hollywood Reporter (The Live Feed) has announced that HBO has picked up Game of Thrones as a new series. Stargate Atlantis star Jason Momoa was in the pilot and, according to the Des Moines Register, will be returning to his role as Khal Drogo when filming begins in June (he’ll be finished with filming Conan by then).

THR:TLF stated, “The premium network has picked up the project for a first season debut next spring…. Nine episodes plus the pilot have been ordered. Production will begin in Belfast this June.” Additionally, there’s a potential for several seasons, which are based on the book series penned by George R.R. Martin: “The four-and-counting books in the series would each be used as one season of the series.”

The article also includes the first image released from the pilot, as well as a link to a photo gallery of the cast, which is led by Sean Bean.

Visit HBO greenlights ‘Game of Thrones’ to series (pic) for more details.

Congratulations, Jason!

Re: Star watch

As an addendum to "An American Carol," Alaina Huffman's character was listed as Celebrity #1. In addition Robert Davi (SGA's Acastis Kolya) appeared as Aziz (a terrorist) in the political satire.

"An American Carol" is not appearing on TCM, which is Turner Classic Movies. It is actually playing this month on TMC, which is The Movie Channel, a premium service.

This news just in from The Futon Critic: Stargate star Ben Browder’s Hellcats pilot has been picked up to series by The CW for the fall!

Hellcats is an ensemble drama set in the world of competitive college cheerleading. Aly Michalka, Ashley Tisdale, Ben Browder, Elena Esovolova, Gail O’Grady, Heather Hemmens, Matt Barr, Robbie Jones and Sharon Leal all star in the project, which comes from CBS Television Studios, Tom Welling Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Allan Arkush directed the pilot presentation, which was penned by Kevin Murphy.
Browder’s character description (from an earlier announcement):

He’ll reportedly play Red Irvine, Lancer University’s football coach, “a handsome rogue who never lost the boyishness of youth.” He and the Hellcats coach Vanessa Hodge (Sharon Leal) share a history – they had an affair while he, then married at the time, was an assistant coach and she was cheer captain – and now he wants payback (she dumped him after he left his wife without telling her) in the form of getting her fired after one of the Hellcats (Heather Hemmens) gets hurt.
The pilot was shot in Vancouver, so the show will most likely also film there. According to the show’s overview page at the Critic’s website, there will be 13 episodes in the first season.

Browder is also producing and starring in the web-based series Naught for Hire, which will consist of thirteen six-minute episodes and is expected to premiere in December.

Congratulations, Mr. Browder!

There was some confusion surrounding the notable absence of Ben Browder’s name in the official press releases concerning The CW’s picking up the Tom Welling pilot Hellcats to series. Browder fans asked around and now fansite Ben Browder Portal has published this announcement, which comes directly from Browder’s management office:

According to Ben’s management, he has made the difficult decision to pass on the opportunity to work on the series Hell Cats. Ben has chosen to focus his attention on a couple of other film projects in the works.
We’ll keep our eyes open for the announcements for these film projects, as well as look forward to seeing him as Nick Naught in the web-based series Naught for Hire that’s due to debut in December this year!

Who said anything about retirement? Always eager to get back in the business when the right project comes along, former Stargate SG-1 leading man Richard Dean Anderson has been cast in a recurring role in the new USA Network series Facing Kate. This according to Fancast.com.

Anderson — SG-1’s Jack O’Neill — will play the not-at-all generically named “David Smith” in at least five episodes of the series, which begins production Vancouver this month.

Facing Kate stars Sarah Shahi as Kate Reed, “a top litigator who became frustrated with the endless bureaucracy and injustice she witnessed on a daily basis and decided to become the ultimate anti-lawyer: a mediator,” according to a network press release. Anderson’s character is described by the site as “a charismatic but secretive man who enters Kate’s life shortly after the death of her father. In short order, it is revealed that David has deeper connections to the Reed family.”

The new series co-stars Michael Trucco (Battlestar Galactica, One Tree Hill), Virginia Williams (The O.C., American Beauty) and Baron Vaughn (Invasion).

Most recently, Anderson has made a handful of guest appearances as General O’Neill on Stargate Universe. He’s expected to return for Stargate: Revolution, should MGM get the planned SG-1 movie off the ground.

USA has ordered 11 episodes for the first season of Facing Kate, in addition to the 90-minute pilot. The network hasn’t announced a premiere date yet, but 2011 seems likely. Stick with GateWorld for more developments.

The last time we saw Michael Shanks in a classroom, he was Daniel Jackson in Prof. Rush's imagination in SGU's HUMAN (MGM)
Between his recent wrapping on the feature Faces in the Crowd and beginning work in a Gothic interpretation of Red Riding Hood next month, Stargate star Michael Shanks has managed to film a guest starring appearance on the Cartoon Network’s new live-action show Tower Prep. Shanks sent a note to his Official Website that introduces us to Professor Literature:

“…squeezed in a guest-spot on a locally shot show called Tower Prep that our good friend Peter DeLuise was directing. It was fun; cool premise, nice folks. I play a character on it named Professor Literature.”
The IMDb profile for the show lists it as a drama, while MSOL-quoted Variety calls it an action thriller. The Newsarama Blog featured an article about the show’s having been picked up and described it as being “about a rebellious teen who wakes up one day trapped in a mysterious, inescapable prep school. By teaming up with his fellow students/inmates, this series looks like a long term caper.” Peter DeLuise has directed more than one episode of the new show, which currently is set to premiere this fall.

More about the show from Cartoon Network/Turner Newsroom:

Tower Prep: A one-hour, live-action scripted series premiering this fall, Tower Prep tells the story of a rebellious teen, Ian (Drew Van Acker), who wakes up one morning to find himself trapped at a mysterious prep school that offers no escape. He forms a secret group with CJ (Elise Gatien), Gabe (Ryan Pinkston) and Suki (Dyana Liu), intent on discovering what they’re being trained for and how to escape. Tower Prep is produced by Cartoon Network Studios in association with Dolphin Entertainment. The series is executive-produced and created by Paul Dini (Lost, Batman Beyond). Glen Morgan (Bionic Woman) and Bill O’Dowd (Zoey 101) serve as executive producers.
