Star Trek Brown??? Really??

DATE: JUN 3, 2012 | AUTHOR: BRENT MCKNIGHT

J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek sequel—as yet untitled—is in the works. Rebooting the franchise means some tweaks, changes, and updates to the beloved series. According to a new behind the scenes photo, these alterations include some snazzy new uniforms.

Image

The photo shows Scotty and Chekov (Simon Pegg and Anton Yelchin, respectively, reprising their roles from the first film) in rigid-looking brown uniforms. When you think of Starfleet uniforms you usually think of the iconic gold, blue, and red (poor redshirts) outfits from the original series. At least that’s what I think of.

It is unclear what the function and purpose of these new unis are. They look like they could be some sort of dress uniform, something worn at an official function or celebration. There’s not really much else to go on in this pic. The outfits bear the Starfleet logo, but no sign of rank or medals or anything of that nature. However, they definitely look like they’re intended for more of a special occasion than day to day use and they actually resemble the grey dress uniform worn by Spock in the 2009 Star Trek film…

Anjini Azhar, the young actress who appears in the film and the photo with Pegg and Yelchin, shared the photo with her talent agency, who then put them up on web. The pictures have since gone viral, passed around by fans and Trek centric websites. Azhar plays the daughter of Noel Clarke and Nanzeen Contractor’s characters.

What do you think of the new look?

That is because Gene and Majel are no longer around to promote the vivid "happy-Shiny" colors anymore. 8)

Re: Star Trek Brown??? Really??

I agree that these new uniforms are quite ugly, I'd rather see the one's from the last movie back again. I don't know why they feel the need to change things just because it's another movie instead of being consistent.

Am I wrong? Do we really know what these uniforms are for yet?

Re: Star Trek Brown??? Really??

These uniforms may only be in a very small part of the movie.

Re: Star Trek Brown??? Really??

Yeah until we know the context I withold judgement. They could be part of a holoprogram for all we know. Even as dress uniforms like Spock's gray they aren't that bad.

Plus nothing is worse than the pale blue pajamas from The Motion Picture.

I also always hated the big dress ones Kirk and the gang wore in later movies with the terrible flip over front collar thing. I don't know what they were thinking.

Re: Star Trek Brown??? Really??

I think my favorite Starfleet uniform is from the later seasons of TNG(black slacks, black/dept color tunic with fitted waist and mandarin style collar).

Re: Star Trek Brown??? Really??

LISA! You hated the "monster maroon" (got its nickname from tailors, apparently it was a MONSTER to build)??? I assume you mean the double-breated-like uniform from the Wrath of Khan - Undiscovered Country era? That was one of my favorites, actually.
Although it seems that we all agree on the ugly pajamas! But hey, maybe they were very comfortable to sleep in?

Re: Star Trek Brown??? Really??

A new thought: maybe it's a time-travel/alternate history story similar to the original episode "Patterns of Force", where the planet evolved as Nazis?
