Re: Terra Nova - Fox

I have to agree with you Logan, it seem's to be a cross between Earth-2 and Jurassic Park. But since I don't get off work and home until 2045, I miss most of the show. (I am catching them on the website on my off days) It is a cool concept.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

2 - Taylor. Hated his whole commando thing. Hated it. You knew he was going to spaz out hardcore, but how did he find the colony???? He had no idea where he was and he somehow miraculously finds a motorcycle and gets to the colony, boom. I will admit that I liked the scene in the camp when Wash shot him. That was actually pretty cool.

The motorcycle was most likely there for the ones that were working at the station to get back to the colony if needed. It's small enough to contain within an outpost facility such as that. As for him finding it so easily, if you had noticed, when he came across the path of the dinosaur and preferred to not believe it was there, he looked down at the dash of the cycle and on the display, there was like a GPS thing that pointed out the colony.

As for the root, since he wasn't sneezing when he got there and for quite some time, it was a forgotten object because other things were more important and pressing at the time. Jim is also not medical/science, just a cop, so his mind wouldn't think about things like that.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

I'm disappointed in how lazy the writers are for this show. We got the stock Naked Now episode with the virus and now the stock little kid runaway. Gotta give us some content!

What bothered me the most was that with the flimsy little bit of info the Sixer chick did give Jim (big people wanting Taylor gone and her doing her job to be reunited with her daughter) Jim decided he somehow didn't trust Taylor completely either and didn't tell him what she said. I tried to rationalize that he's a cop...he's trying to get all the facts. But nope. Somehow she planted a seed of doubt by telling him absolutely nothing that should have done so. WTF is that?

Other than that, I enjoyed the episode okay.

And maybe I'm just nitpicking, but how did Jim find the camp? He had the little blip on the GPS thingy on the bke, but in a jungle world as big as this, how did he know where to look? Sure, the girl could have shown him on a map, but that is something that you'd think could be given in a throwaway line once he's taken prisoner.

Then there's the recurring theme...

The little girl was blackmailed into infiltrating the colony because the Sixers had her little brother.

The head of the Sixers 'seems' to be in the same boat as the powers that be have promised her a reunion with her little girl.

And Josh will be blackmailed into spying so he can get his girlfriend.

Don't the writers have any other plot devices?

Taylor is cartoonish. I keep waiting for him to say something about eating things that would make a billy goat puke and then the vision will be complete. I like Jim and Elizabeth okay and I'm warming up to gruff old Malcolm. The teenage daughter is the best actress on the show. Oh and I like Wash because she's pretty badass.

I also agree with a military friend of mine whose been a combat photographer for years who says that their tech is less advanced-looking than what our militray uses now. They don't even have run flats on their vehicles. Oh and their nifty guns? Painted Nerfs. LOL

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

I haven't seen seen the show, but I do think the the weapons are pretty neat looking. Someone had a burst of inspiration using Nerf guns. Not all prop guns make sense if you look at them too hard, as neat as they were, take the M41A Pulse rifle from Aliens, 99 10mm rounds in that little magazine? not to mention the "shotgun" grenade launcher. But movie magic is just that, magic, if you look too close or know how it's done it tends to take something away from the magic.

I thought she said she would point out the camp on a map? I also thought he was captured and taken to the camp...not that he found it. Did I miss something?

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

merlin, you're probably right! lol Sometimes I can be a nitpicker. :)

She did say she would go over maps with Taylor, so I guess we could assume Jim was there or was told something. I guess what I meant was, unless he had some sort of information that we weren't given, it was a sot in the dark that he'd even head in the right general direction.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

I think the show overall is pretty good. I like the acting and all the interacting going on in the colony. But I agree theres alot of stuff left out in every episode. But I think we will know more about Terra Nova as the show continues as long as it doesn't get canceled.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

I missed this week's ep, but it sure sounds interesting from what all I hear you guys talking about. I think my wife said that it's available to watch on the computer. The weapons are pretty cool looking, even if they are just repainted Nerf blasters. Lets face facts, if you're spending a ton of money on CGI efffects that probably doesn't leave much money for props. But hey, it's a fun show and I enjoy it. time to catch up.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

Finally got to see the ep that I missed. I found it to be quite entertaining. I do agree with those that said Shannon's opinions of Taylor wouldn't likely change because of what the sixer lady told him. Oh well, I'll just have to watch more & see what happens.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

I have to chime in here and say, that I have been watching Terra Nova from the beginning and I still can not read Taylor on whether he is a good guy or a bad guy. The defficulty is I can not get the bad guy idea out of my head since I saw him in Avitar. He is playing him kinda close to that guy too.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

Is it the actor? Initially I thought the two were the same type of character, certainly the same kind of look and feel. I still have a favorable opinion of Taylor at this point and hope it stays that way.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

I get the feeling that Taylor 'thinks' he's a good guy and very likely is at his core, but is being used by someone back in the future.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

If Taylor is being used by somebody back in the future it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. That's the sort of thing that helps to add depth to a story.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

Tonight's ep wasn't bad. But answer me this, who the heck designs military grade rifles & sidearms with an electronic trigger mechanism that isn't shielded from EMP? Answer: an idiot, of course the quartermaster that procured the hardware isn't too bright either. Well, now we have an idea of what the "box" is and the fact that the sixers are only the couriers makes it more interesting for me, especially since they hand it over to Taylor's son.

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

Remember, they obviously did not think that important since the FX is more important than the Nerf rifles. LOL

Re: Terra Nova - Fox

This show has gotten so much better with the past two episodes.

My only real nitpicks are the thing about the EMP taking out all the key systems and weapons. BUT the Eye thing had shielding and wasn't affected? Really? I didn't buy that either as you'd think they would have been prepared for those types of contingencies, especially since Wash and Taylor say they saw the same thing happen in Somalia with an EMP burst taking out power. So, you have been through it before but had no prep for it? Kinda sloppy.

Also, why does all the med tech look so much more advanced than the military tech? Those bio-beds give Trek a run for its money, but the military systems look like something from Jurassic Park.

I am liking that now that they have all the characters introduced they have started adding layers to the story. the intro of Taylor's son was welcome and adds another dimension.

I like it a lot better now!!

I would have to go back and watch the first ep again but with all the health problems with the sucky environment in the future...it makes sense that most of the advances were in medicine.
