SG Shadow Hunters was formed to assist the Stargate Special Operations Command in its design function conducting unconventional warfare and support of deployed Stargate teams, and other defensive or offensive missions on- or off-world, against land-, air-, or space-based threats. SG Shadow Hunters operates as an multiple agency team made up of members from all branches of the military and other intelligence organizations. SG Shadow Hunters conducts a broad spectrum of covert military and paramilitary operations, normally of long duration, predominantly conducted through, with, or by indigenous or surrogate forces who are organized, trained, equipped, supported, and directed in varying degrees by an external source. It includes, but is not limited to, guerrilla warfare, subversion, sabotage, intelligence activities, and unconventional assisted recovery. The members of SG Shadow Hunters are trained in the following special reconnaissance, psychological operations, information operations, Counter-terrorism, Combat search and rescue and direct action. The team is often off world for long periods of time often with no form of back up.

SG Shadow Hunters also conducts long term reconnaissance for scientific use. This includes long term anthropology, linguistics, and psychiatric studies of races that the IOA and department of Homeworld security have deemed to primitive for first contact.
   

The History of the Shadow Hunters can be traced back to the 10th Mountain Division a light infantry division of the United States Army based at Fort Drum, New York. It is a subordinate unit of the XVIII Airborne Corps and the only division-sized element of the US Army to specialize in fighting under harsh terrain and weather conditions.

Due to the vast and unpredictable demands of the explorations (and hostile engagements) taking place within the still-fledgling Stargate program the nation's military leaders decided a unit such as the 10th Mountain Division would be needed. A pilot program was started using elements of the 10th designated simply as "The Mountaineers" the new team became part of the SGSFD (StarGate Special Forces Division), and spent all their time in training in order to become a worthy offspring of the 10th Mountain Division. The team was assigned to support various SG teams in a variety of off world missions and developed a reputation of being some of the best the SGC had to offer. As the Stargate program grew the need for a more organized Special Forces command became apparent and the SGSFD became SG-SOCOM. Under SG-SOCOM, the Mountaineers as they had become know were reorganized with some of the original members joining what would eventually become the Shadow Hunters (the name arising from the team's pursuit and engagement of the dark forces hostile to the Earth and its citizens).

The Shadow Hunters would become SG-SOCOM's unconventional warfare team. With the abilities the team had learned from the Mountaineers they were able to conduct long term missions in the harshest environments.
   

FIELD & GARRISON UNIFORM:

• While on field duty, Shadow Hunters uniform varies as to the type and terrain of the mission.
• If not on field duty, Shadow Hunters personnel are authorized to wear the standard black BDU uniform of the SG-SOCOM, with or without tac vest and shoulder arm(s)
• Stargate Program patch off left shoulder; Team patch off right shoulder
• Black T-shirt
• Black boots
• Headgear for this uniform shall be standard fatigue cap to match field or garrison uniforms
• Personal sidearm of choice in drop holster
• Shoulder arms which are authorized include, MP5, FN P90, M4A1, M16A2, M733.
