Anya Logan never saw herself as the military-type.
She buried herself in her studies, literally, to obtain a double doctorate
in Anthropology and Ancient Cultures and Languages. Studying abroad in the
desert outside Egypt, she was part of an archaeological team headed by the
acclaimed anthropologist Dr. Mirah Baldwin. The team had discovered a burial
site far removed from the Valley of Kings with hieroglyphics that didn't
match any text, leaving Dr. Baldwin asking for assistance from a colleague,
a brilliant young specialist named Dr. Daniel Jackson.
Having spent months struggling to decipher the script, Dr. Baldwin and Logan
worked on the problem with Dr. Jackson and the three of them were able to
discover the missing code they needed for translation. Logan had been
impressed by Jackson and they had struck up the basis for a friendship when
he was suddenly called away on urgent business.
Logan continued to study with Dr. Baldwin and finish her post-graduate work,
graduating at the top of her class. And then, fate laid a new course for
her. Dr. Jackson, knowing the need for more civilian specialists in the SGC
program, nominated Logan for a position in a newly formed Special Operations
unit of the SGC. Hesitant to bring someone with no military training into
the fold, Logan was contacted about the opportunity given the condition that
she join the US Army and attend an advanced and highly aggressive military
training curriculum, including OCS.
The offer to study cultures that she could only dream about was too good to
pass up and she entered the training program. Her years of study in the
jungles and deserts of the world, enduring harsh climates and living
conditions, and having to learn the art of diplomacy in dealing with often
hostile natives, proved to be a good asset during her training. General
O'Neill was reluctant at first to assign Logan to the SF team, but upon the
recommendation of her instructors and Dr. Jackson's assurances of her
abilities, she was offered a slot in SG-SF, a newly formed Special
Operations team in SG-SOCOM.
Tranferring into SG-SF with the rank of a 2nd Lt., she quickly demonstrated to her
teammates her dedication to the job at hand and her quick thinking helped
them successfully complete missions. Over the past seven years of duty with SG-SF, Logan demonstrated the necessary traits to garner her eventual
promotion to Captain, as SG-SOCOM saw her as a valuable asset, as well as,
serving to strike a balance in the team's makeup and provide balanced
leadership between the military and scientific sides of the operation.
