Off-World Teams & Garrison Uniforms
The SG-SOCOM utilizes tactical black BDUs as the base uniform, signifying an elite status. Tactical black web gear and vests are used. Black tactical boots, Kevlar styled helmets, and associated military items are worn. SG-SOCOM members can also wear the elite tiger-stripe BDUs. If you want to stand out from the other
SG costumers, then SG-SOCOM is for you. Some members start their basic costume with available BDUs (woodland, desert, OD, etc.) and this is more than acceptable. The basic SG uniform can also be woodland BDUs, the SGSOC
Off-World Ops patch and SG Project patch, and assorted gear.
The SG-SOCOM utilizes a black flightsuit for the F-302 pilots and sage flightsuits for the grounds crews and non-F-302 pilots, with boots and belt, with a shoulder holster. A black flight helmet (SPH-D for example) or custom helm can be worn. SG-SOCOM members can also wear the tactical black BDUs as the base uniform, signifying an elite status. If you want to stand out from the other SG costumers, then SG-SOCOM is for you. Some members start their basic costume with available BDUs (woodland, desert, OD, etc.) and this is more than acceptable. The basic SG uniform can also be woodland BDUs, the SGSOC Space & Air Ops patch and SG Project patch, and assorted gear.
The basic costume consists of the standard black flightsuit with service-appropriate patches, black t-shirt, black boots, helmet (if on active flight duty; pilots not in their craft are authorized to go uncovered, or to wear garrison cap or beret if not on the flight line), black nomex flight gloves (if on active flight duty), personal sidearm of choice in shoulder holster. Alternately, a pistol belt with drop-holster may be used. Shoulder arms are authorized but not required.
Advanced costumes include choices based on the individual team member's budget and the look one wants to articulate. Advancements can be tactical gear such as vests, drop-leg holsters and mag pouches, two canteens/covers, M9/10 bayonet holder and prop bayonet, Kevlar or styled helmet with cover and cat-eyes band, wind/dust goggles, FRS/GRS radio, etc. One may also want to add in an upgraded airsoft prop weapon, such as an M4 Carbine or even an M-60!
SG patches can be found at
PatchGeeks. Patches include: 1.
SG Team 4" patch (SG-Special Forces or individual's Team patch) on upper right shoulder. 2. Branch of service (Army, Air
Force, Navy or Marines.) on lower right shoulder if so desired, but not required. 3.
SGP Stargate Project 3.75" patch on upper left shoulder. 4. SG flash patch (flash for beret).
The SG-SOCOM teams & squadrons wear their exclusive (available to team/sqdn members only) patches in addition to these
SG Snipers, etc). The 111th
Wraith Squadron has a custom patch and an SF Aviation patch available in
Web Gear includes vests, tactical holsters and shoulder holsters, vests, belts, etc. This can be non-existant for your particular costume, as "garrison" costumes are acceptable. Many choose to use the BlackHawk Brand for detailed accuracy. There are affordable alternatives. Websites such as
CheaperThanDirt, and also at places such as
AirsoftAtlanta carry TacForce, MilTec and other brands that have been used by extras in filming the S-G-1 series. Some choose Kevlar G.I. issue helmets. An affordable and lighter alternative for costuming purposes can be found for near $20 at
AirsoftAtlanta and other sites. Research is key, not just in finding a good buy. Get the look you want for your costume, what is comfortable to wear and... above all... have fun with it!
The series utilizes many common and some special made devices as props. Official props can be found at
LightsSpeedFineArt and they carry various items, as does
StartgateProps for a good selection. The GDO is a favorite for
SG costumers. T'auri, Tok'ra and
Goa'uld devices are fun to collect, build as props and add to your costume.
The various SG Teams on the series have been seen carrying many types of weapons, some in service with military forces and others not. Makes are wide, but some popular firearms used in the series include the FNP90, M15A4 Carbine, M203 Grenade Launcher, H&K MP5, SPAS 12 Shotgun, M92F pistol, etc. For Stargate costuming prop purposes the most widely popular way to reproduce the actual firearms is through the carrying of AirSoft/SoftAir BB guns. These vary in make with popular choices including Tokyo
Marui, ICS, Classic Army, Echo1, JG, UTG, Cyma, HFC, KJW, KWA, UFC, etc. They can be all plastic, all metal or a mix. Prices vary accordingly. Some can be single shot spring-actions, while others are selectable from semi to full automatic fire. For prop use, safety measures are taken to remove batteries, have no BBs present, have orange/red safety tips on the barrels, and have them inspected for safe carrying. Popular sites include
AirsoftExtreme. Great care should be taken with these in public. Check with your local con or event staff first before carrying these. NOTE: one must also be of legal age to purchase and carry these. Check with your local officials for more information.
Zats and Staff weapons, as are ribbon devices, are nice additions. Such "alien" prop weapons can add to one's costume and are highly prized.
